We woke up this morning and visited the Amish House & Farm and the kids got to see a working farm. After the house tour we drove through the countryside and saw a number of farms and houses and Amish folks working on the beautiful day. We stopped at Riehl's Quilt Shop where the students bought them out of Quillows. After that stop we continued on to Intercourse, PA to Kitchen Kettle where they were able to eat lunch and purchase their "I (heart) Intercourse" t-shirts.
We had a short bus ride into Gettysburg where the kids were able to get checked in to the hotel and then we went to the Visitor’s Center. The new Gettysburg Foundation Visitor’s Center just opened about two months ago and it is wonderful and much more interactive than the last one. After our quick run through of the museum we had a step-on guide get on the bus and we toured the battlefields of Gettysburg. We caught up with a thunder storm with no rain.
Dinner was a buffet at General Pickets, which was yummy! Then we headed back to the hotel where the kids had a short time in the pool before we got another thunder storm, but this time were able to see the lightening so the kids had to get out of the pool. However, they did catch up with an 8th grade group from New Hampshire and the boys started a game of touch football in the field across the street from our hotel. The rain started and got worse and worse and the boys are muddy and soaked, so are the girls who were rooting them on. According to our boys, we won, but I don't know about that....
Not sure what will happen with our scheduled Ghost Tour tonight. The thunder and lightening has stopped for the time being but... it looks like another one is brewing.
We are up early tomorrow to head to the Capitol in Washington D.C.
