Basic Itinerary

Below is our itinerary. I will do my best to update it along the way and add photos if I can. If the word below is underlined you can click on it and visit their website and learn a little more about the location we are visiting!

Thursday, May 21st - Depart Portland on red eye flight!

Friday, May 22nd - Arrive Boston (via Newark, NJ), and head out to visit the Mayflower II and Plimoth Plantation. After lunch we will head back into Boston to see the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill.

Dinner is at a wonderful family style Italian restaurant, La Famiglia Georgios and then we will go walk around Ivy League school Harvard before bedtime.

Saturday, May 23rd - This morning we start off on Boston's Freedom Trail where we will see the Boston Commons, the Cheers site, the Old State House, the Boston Massacre Site and Granaray Burying Ground.

Then we head on to Old South Meeting House and Quincy Market at Faneuil Hall for lunch. Today is the yearly Street Festival and the kids get to watch all sorts of acts,

Next we head to Paul Revere's House and then we get to experience a steeple and crypt tour at Old North Church.

Dinner will be back at Quincy Market (since they don't get to see everything at lunch time) and then the infamous Blue Man Group performance.

Sunday, May 24th - We are headed to New York City today! We are seeing West Side Story play on Broadway, eating dinner at Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square and then will head outside for a group photo!

Monday, May 25th - Memorial Day - We will be visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island via the Circle Line ferry from Battery Park today.

After Ellis Island we will walk to the 9/11 site and visit St. Paul's Church and then walk down Wall Street on to the South Street Seaport.

After lunch we will drive by the United Nations and have a little shopping time on 5th Avenue (Tiffany's anyone?). Then we are on our way to Amish Country in Lancaster where the kids will have their first chance to swim a little before their pizza party and bedtime story and writing activity.

Tuesday, May 26th - Today we get to visit a working Amish Farm and House and then a tour of the countryside with a stop at Riehl's Quilt shop where the kids can purchase a Quillow if they want! We eat lunch in Intercourse, PA at Kitchen Kettle and then head to Gettysburg.

In Gettysburg we will take a driving tour and the kids can get out and look at Little Roundtop and other monuments and sites of the Civil War. After dinner and maybe a little more swimming (only if books are caught up) we will have our nightly walking ghost tour..... BOO!

Wednesday, May 27th - Headed to Washington DC! Today we are planning to visit the National Archieves and see the Declaration of Independence and the emotional Holocaust Museum.

We'll be eating lunch at the Navy Memorial and then seeing our first Smithsonian and then touring the Newseum after which we will see Ford's Theatre and the Peterson House.

Tonight we will do a night time tour of the monuments including the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, Washington Monument, WWII Monument, Vietnam Memorial and more! Then we will finish up with dinner at the ESPN Zone.

Thursday, May 28th - Today we will visit the Capitol and see where everything happens (courtesy of Senator Merkley). We will walk by the Supreme Court and Library of Congress and then visit the American History Smithsonian.

We are going to drive through Embassy Row on our way to the National Cathedral. When our Cathedral tour is over we are headed to a Major League Baseball Game!

Tonight we be at Camden Yards watching the Baltimore Oriole's take on the Detroit Tigers.

Friday, May 29th - We will start today with visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Kennedy's gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery.

Next we will head to Charlottesville, VA to visit Thomas Jefferson's beautiful homestead of Monticello. We will then head into Williamsburg for the evening.

Saturday, May 30th - Today the kids will explore Colonial Williamsburg visiting the Governor's Palace and craft shops. If they finish their study booklets they will enjoy the many rides and games that Busch Gardens offers for the evening.

Sunday, May 31st - Today we will head home, but not before heading into Washington DC again to see George Washington's home Mt. Vernon.
