Happy Sunday Everyone,

We have our 2nd east coast meeting tomorrow from 6:00-7:30 in the Roseway Heights library.

As noted in the last newsletter handed out at the student meeting, I will hand out Raffle Fundraiser information to the kids tomorrow in the meeting. I will also be available in Mr. Young's room during the first few minutes of the student meeting to review the raffle information and answer any questions. Parents do not have to come to get raffle information because I will send it home with students.

The students will receive another newsletter (as they will at every meeting) as well as a printed calendar with meeting and payment dates.

If you haven't mailed in the January payment which was due on the 17th, please bring it to the meeting tomorrow.

Hello 8th graders! Are you ready for the start of your final year at Roseway Heights? We hope you have a challenging and productive year with a great 8th grade team of teachers. A letter was sent out to next years' 8th grade families by the retiring and soon to be former principal of Roseway Heights that made numerous statements that are very questionable and in some cases inaccurate. We want parents and students to know that the Paths To Our Past Trip and Program will continue. We will have much more information about the upcoming 2012 trip this summer. Please check back often this July and August for updates about this years' trip. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Paths To Our Past informational meeting this fall.

To all our parents, traveling students, relatives and friends who helped make this trip the best ever -
We would like to thank you for your hard work and dedication to this year's 25th annual Paths To Our Past East Coast Trip. The kids had a great time and were very well behaved. We received numerous compliments from airline personal, guides and the general public about how well behaved your kids were. It is a tribute to the community, schools and parents in the area; a great way to travel with such well prepared and well behaved students. We hope all students have a great summer, a successful transition to high school, and will keep the memories of Blue Man Group, Spiderman, and the history of our nation as a reminder of the talents and creativity that makes us all Americans.

For all you 7th graders, your trip is less than a year away and we hope you have been saving up for your adventure when you travel on your East Coast Trip 2012, next spring.

New York!

We landed in New York City today. The kids had a blast at the play Spiderman. Luckily we still got to see the play since they had a few technical difficulties (surprise, surprise) but it was actually really cool, we got to see a little sneak peak into the back stage workings of the flying that happens during the play. The kids were impressed and really had a great time, and the costumes were amazing, as was the set. We went on to have dinner at Hard Rock Cafe in the middle of Times Square. The kids had the opportunity to see TS in the daylight and then again at night, what a stark contrast it is being all lit up at night. We visited the M&M store and then had our picture professionally taken in Times Square with all the lights. After a fun evening we headed to our hotel where we were supposed to have a visit from a few of the Jersey Shore cast members, unfortunately Snookie and The Situation were double booked and so they sent their cousins Cookie and The Solution in their place..... fun times :) Pictures at www.facebook.com/pathstoourpast (you do not need a facebook account to view the pictures).

We've Arrived on the East Coast!

Well we made it to Boston on Friday morning and headed straight out to Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower II. After walking around the plantation and engaging the actors in conversations the kids were ready for our wonderful Italian meal of lots of meatballs, alfrado, red ziti, chicken parmesean and of course some canoli's! After chowing down on dinner we headed over to Harvard to tour the Library and campus. Once we got back to the hotel room and the kids got settled in and we had a 'fire drill' and walked all the kids outside in their PJ's and then they got ice cream with all the fixings next door at the bowling alley/restaurant. Yum Yum!

Saturday took us out to Lexington and Concord following Paul Revere's route to warn that the British were coming. We then travelled in to Boston to being touring the Freedom Trail seeing Granary Burying Ground, Old South Meeting House, Faneuil Hall for lunch, Paul Revere's House, Old North Church with a tour of the bell tour and crypt and back to Faneuil Hall for dinner. We burned off dinner as we walked over to the Boston Commons to spend a little time writing and drawing our adventures from the day. The kids really took on the challenge and there are some neat pictures and stories! Next we went to Blue Man Group where the kids had a blast.

Now we are currently on the road to New York City to see Spiderman and have dinner at Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square!!

Ashland with the RWH 7th Graders

Had a blast down in Ashland with Mr. Gentile and Ms. Wilson and many of the Roseway Heights 7th graders! We saw Julius Caesar in the New Theatre sitting in the round with a minimal set, then we saw the Imaginary Invalid in the Angus Bowmer Theatre which was a stark contrast in time period, theme, stage presence and costumes. I believe the kids enjoyed the Imaginary Invalid a little more than Caesar, and really, who can blame them, the Imaginary Invalid was very funny! Friday morning we were able to take a backstage tour and learn more about the Ashland Festival and all it entails and how the shows are turned into productions.

Hi parents of 7th graders on the Ashland trip! My name is Stacey Partin and I work with Dennis Hartinger and we run the Paths To Our Past East Coast Trip. Mr. Gentile asked me to chaperone this trip to get to know some of the 7th graders better. Hopefully they will all be coming with us on the east coast trip next year!

We made it to Ashland and the kids are in the rooms unpacking as I type this note. We are getting ready to head over to Burger King for dinner and then we'll come back for the kids to get dressed up for tonight's play, Julius Caesar!

Raffle Tickets Due Wed!!

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone had a safe and fun spring break last week. This is a reminder email for those of you who sold raffle tickets that you need to turn in your raffle tickets and money on Wednesday, March 30th to me. I will be at Roseway Heights from 6:00 to 6:30 (I'll probably be there by 5:45ish).

Please make sure you have your customer's name and phone number on the back of the tickets and your name is written on the ticket somewhere as well. At the Spaghetti Dinner on Friday we'll set up a booth to sell additional raffle tickets and the money earned that evening from raffle sales will be split across the students who participated in the raffle. After dinner is well under way (we'll work with Sue on the timing) we'll raffle the items off. East coast students and parents must stay for their shift at the dinner and for the raffle. Students are responsible for taking items and delivering to the winners not present.

Don't forget to sell plants like crazy, order forms are due Monday, April 4th at the East Coast Meeting.

Wreath/Poinsettia Pick Up SUNDAY & Other Fundraising Info

Hi Everyone,

I apologize for the late reminder on the wreath and poinsettia pick up.

Please be at Roseway Heights Sunday at 11:00 am to pick up your wreaths and poinsettias. Unfortunately the building is not open that day so we will be outside.

It is imperative that you are on time so the poinsettias are not outside in the cold (and possibly the rain) any longer than absolutely necessary.

I will stay at Roseway until Noon for those that may need to make multiple trips to haul away their entire order.

For those of you who sold items, I will have your December bill on Sunday and for those that did not sell, your bill will be mailed.

Please remember Susan emailed out coffee selling information, let me know if you need more of those forms. The first deadline to have coffee by the Holiday Season (and Christmas) is Fri. Dec. 10th. If you have a number of orders, please feel free to bring them and the money to me on Sunday and I will make sure Susan get everything.

I am working on getting dates set for the Christmas Tree pick up and hope to have that information by Sunday.

Also, Mr. Gentile is working on a trip to Ashland for his 7th graders and he is having them sell Jentile Soaps right now. He handed out order forms to the kids yesterday and said he wanted to include the 8th graders going on the east coast trip! If you don't have an order form, check with Mr. Gentile. Please be respectful that the main intent of this fundraiser is for the 7th graders trip and don't ask teachers at school about this one, instead aim for family and friends who might want items for Christmas. Having purchased many Jentile Soaps I can personally vouch for their wonderful smells and the products are wonderful. The specifics are with Mr. Gentile and on the paperwork handed out.

Attached you'll find an order form, instructions, and a gift packaging/shipping form for fair trade, organic Hammerhead Coffee Roasters (excellent company and product from owners/roasters Scott Hartwich and Mary Burwell in Bellingham, Washington). Coffee is $11.00/pound and profit for PTOPers for each pound sold is $3.50/pound. This is really great coffee and a nice profit for fund raisers.... Wreath & Poinsettia Turn In - Monday (11/1)

Monday, November 1st at 6:00 pm I will be at Roseway Heights to pick up all wreath and poinsettia orders and money.

Please put all money and orders in one envelope marked with the student's name. You are turning in the full amount of money. I will verify all the orders and money and let you know if there are any discrepancies. The order forms will be kept and re-distributed the day the orders arrive so you know to where you need to deliver the wreaths and poinsettias.

Also, Sue Vogel has started a list of students who are willing to babysit, dog walk, mow lawns etc. Please review the attachment and email Sue (VOGEL5597@comcast.net) if you would like to be added to this list and provide her the information necessary to contact you. She would like to get the information in the Rose next week since the Holiday seasons are upon us!

Feel free to bring other fundraising suggestions to me on Monday as well.

If you know of any other students who are still interested in attending the east coast trip, please send them my direction. We are quickly booking play tickets and baseball game and plane tickets etc!

I am so happy that i finally get to blog because i have been waiting for such a long time, i just wanted to say that for all of you in Portland you guys are not the only ones that got rained on for the past couple of days, we also got rained on too but only like 2 times because in Boston there was a 20 minute storm right after we left the italian restaurant and when we got to Lancaster which was today we got a whole rain storm with thunder and lightning haha it ws scary lol. Well i miss everybody in portland, all my friends at school and my family, I cant wait to go home and see everybody but i have to go now because we are going out to dinner (all u can eat buffet) yuumy bye love you guys!

Everybody can get excited now because yes this is really me............I have been wanting to blog all day and now that I get to I honestly don't know what to say because I didn't really know what to say all day anyways. But how has everybody been doing since everybody has left? I heard that when everybody went up to Rocky Bute on Friday and it was raining the whole time and then they made you do assignments but the papers were getting all wet the whole time (that's what Emma said). I have some great pictures from today but at this point everyone's lucky to even get the blog post because the hotel internet is really slow and I can't get it to upload pictures.. Hopefully tomorrow night I can get them added.

First and foremost today was Jonah's birthday. We drove from Boston to New York City and we had to set a new record, something that's never been done before on the trip. We sang Happy Birthday to Jonah in every state we drove through today. In order, Massachusetts, Rhode Island (this one was quick since the state is so small!), Connecticut, New Jersey and New York City. He was a good sport about it all. The Hard Rock Cafe even made him stand up on his chair in front of the entire restaurant who shouted Happy Birthday to him while he blew out his candle.

The kids loved the play, we saw the Lion King. The costumes, set construction and the performance was amazing, very detailed and incredible. After the show we went to dinner at the Hard Rock and then outside we went in search of a geo cache. Now those of you who don't know what geo caching is... well it's basically like a treasure hunt that you can do all over the world. You use coordinates and follow your GPS and then use additional clues to log your find. This is something Mr. Young has gotten into over that past few years and converted me while I was on the trip last year. There was a cache in the middle of times square, crazyness! Aiden found the cache on a Magazine Stand and we pulled out this cool little 'FOUND IT' sign, we called Mr. Gentile and my mom and they both logged into an Earth Cam that shows in Times Square and they took a picture of the group with the sign!! It's cool (I then took a picture with my camera as well since the Earth Cam was kind of far away).

All the kids (except Aiden) went with Mr. Hartinger to explore the oh so popular M&M store. Aiden, Mr. Young and myself had to take off for just one more geo-cache in Times Square area. After M&M's and caching we had our cool picture taken in the middle of Times Square.

Now we are back at the hotel crashing before our long day of NYC tomorrow.

Plan to have some of the kids write blogs tomorrow and Mr. Young has a couple of pictures and notes we are waiting to have him share with you.

Mayflower II, just an hour or so after 'de-parting' the plane (just go with the terminology, it's an Adam phrase), the next two photo are of the group at Bunker Hill, the fourth picture is of part of the group as everyone circled the Boston Massacre site, the fifth picture is the group with our rock star tour guides at Old North Church (we saw the bell tower and the crypt... Joe had to basically crawl on his hands and knees cause he's so tall, pics of that to come later). The last picture is for Sr. Salmon!! We finished Blue Man tonight (which the kids LOVED) and got back to the hotel a little early and before I even had the chance to ask the Spanish students if they had been working on their work, one of them was already out and asking the rest of the kids in class to join him in the hallway to work on their Spanish assignment. How awesome is that!? Sorry Ms. Wilson, no takers on the Algebra catch-up work, but I bet they are just saving it for the four hour bus ride tomorrow.

We are off to the Lion King Broadway Play tomorrow!

Hey everyone, it's Daphne, Gabby and Sophie. We are having an absolute blast, and all of it seems so surreal! Gabby and Daphne's favorite part was Blue Man Group, and Sophie's was the Red Sox game. When we went to Paul Revere's house, we talked to a Minnesotan tour guide, and she said the way to spot a Minnesotian was that they play "duck duck grey-goose" and not "duck duck goose." We absolutley love the Boston accents, and we reannact them everyday and are trying to bring 'em home.:)
Gabby tried to get rid of Daphne's hiccups(again) by saying that her "gullbladder was yellow" what ever that means...? hahah. Tomorrow we're taking a hu-gee bus ride to New York, and we promise tons of pictures.:) Gabby's losing her voice, Daphne's still got the hiccups, and Sophie is eating her pringles. We have to check up with our roomie Kelsey, so until now, See you Sunday!

Boston May 29th

Hello all, its Nataylee and Danielle. It's 10:23 here, 7:23 there. We are very tired. But blue man Group was the BEST... so far. The Red Sox lost. =[ And the Broadway play is tomorrow. =] =] We are so exicted that we are finally here and its all becoming a reality. Its such a different enviroment. We had philly cheesesteaks for lunch... it was delicious. Well thats all for today, until next time.

Mosaic Youth Group

Hey Jordan and Youth group it's Joe,
Danielle the rest of our 8th grade and me are currently in Boston, it's has been so fun yesturday we went to Fenway Park and watched Red Sox and Royals play. We had first base line seats, the best part about it was the entire park did the wave 6 times. Today about an hour ago we saw the Blue Man Group. and tomorrow we head to New York City! there we're seeing the Lion King on Broadway, well Danielle is going to write the rest of this.

This is short and sweet because, you guessed it, I am tired! We hit the ground running today and the students all did great on the flights over. Jet Blue is AMAZING by the way! The weather has been perfect, nicely warm with a slight breeze. The Mayflower II and Plimoth Plantion went well, the kids asked more intriging questions that I had anticipated based on their lack of sleep. We made it to the hotel to quickly check in then it was off to watch the Red Sox take on (and loose again to) the Kansas City Royals. The cool thing was we got to see a couple of homeruns and even a grand slam, though not by the Sox... Oh well. Now everyone is in bed (half have seen the security guard so they know he is real) and I am about to turn the lights out as well. We have a packed day tomorrow with the Freedom Trail and Blue Man Group.

Some of the kids didn't get to call home because we couldn't get the phones working with the calling cards. They all wanted me to be sure to mention that here and that NONE of them did not call because they didn't want to or didn't think about it. All the girls said to tell their parents hi, they love them and will talk to them soon. I didn't talk to the boy's rooms since Mr. Young and Mr. Hartinger checked them in, but I bet they would say the same thing, don't you think?! :)

A few students were able to peel off with Mr. Young after seeing the Mayflower II in order to snag a couple caches and a few others are going out with us earlier tomorrow morning. We'll be rotating that caching experience..

We Leave Today!

So in just over 12 hours we'll all be on a red eye flight from Portland to Boston via NYC's Kennedy airport. We begin our trip tonight, meeting at the airport at 9:00 pm and hit the ground running in Boston, our first three days are LOADED with fun. Tomorrow night we'll be sitting along the third baseline watching the Red Sox defeat the Kansas City Royals (after a long day at Plimoth Plantation and the Mayflower II). Saturday will begin at Lexington/Concord to follow Paul Revere's famous Mid-night Ride, then into Downtown Boston to follow along the Freedom Trail stopping at various sites like the Old South Meeting House, Fanieul Hall, Paul Revere's House and the Old North Church. We will have a terrific family style Italian dinner at La Familigia Gorgio's and then straight off to Blue Man Group!

On Sunday morning we'll move onto the bus for a bit of a drive (time to catch up in study books and on sleep!!!) to NYC! We will see the Lion King on Broadway and then have dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. After dinner we'll walk around Times Square for a while, a couple of students will geo cache while others will check out some stores. Once the sun sets we will have our picture taken with all the bright lights and then head to our hotel.

I'll catch you up on the rest of the trip as we go along. Please leave us comments, the kids love to hear them, it's sort of like Mail Call at Outdoor School. I will ask some kids to come blog away when we have Internet service as well. Pictures will be posted whenever possible.

Raffle tickets are on sale from individual students through Wednesday, March 31st. The drawing will be held Thursday, April 1st during the Spaghetti Dinner at Roseway Heights from 6-8. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Mandatory Field Trip

This Saturday, March 13 the mandatory downtown field trip begins with a meeting at Portland State in Cramer Hall, Room 269. The first 45 minutes will be for BOTH students & parents. We are requesting at least one parent must be present with their child. Parents need to pick‐up their child at 3:30 from the Vietnam Memorial, which is located just past the Forestry Center near the zoo. Please be prepared for the weather, this activity will take place rain or shine.

The 2nd East Coast meeting is tomorrow night at Roseway Heights from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in the Library, please remember to bring your east coast binder and a pen. These meetings are for students only and are mandatory. We trust that all students will be on time and in attendance at every meeting, this helps us know who will be on time and ready to go as instructed while on the trip.

We hand out a newsletter at every meeting which discusses important trip elements and students are instructed to share the newsletter with their family when they get home. Last week's newsletter needed to be signed by both the student and a parent/guardian and is to be returned tomorrow night at the meeting. I am attaching the newsletter this time around.

We have to purchase our airline tickets on Tuesday so we don't loose them. We have also purchased play tickets as well as baseball tickets. We must have enough money in each students account to purchase tickets for them.

Wreath & Poinsettia Pick up & Jenteal Soap Orders Due

Hope Thanksgiving went well for everyone.

Don't forget to be at Roseway Heights by Noon this Saturday (12/5).

We will meet in the back parking lot by the play structure. We have to help off load the trucks and (fingers crossed there is no rain) we'll move everything into the small gym. We have to double count the order for the driver to leave. Then we will have a section for each student to collect their entire order into one area of the small gym. When your entire order is complete AND I have verified the order is correct, you may begin loading up the car to deliver your orders. The more people who are helping the faster it will go for everyone.

If you placed an order you MUST be at school by Noon to assist.

Remember the Jenteal Soap orders (with money) are due when you pick up your wreaths. No late orders will be accepted so that we can get the product the following week. Also, I will put together the orders Sat and will mail out your December bills on Monday which will include the profit amounts from the Wreath/Poinsettia sale and the Jenteal Soaps!

The kids are working tirelessly to earn all their money for their east coast trip and have a few major fundraisers happening right now!

- Jenteal Soaps - wonderful smelling soaps, body butters, candles, etc all made in Oregon are for sell now! Orders are to be turned in on Saturday, December 5th at noon (when the wreaths and poinsettias are being picked up)

- Christmas Tree Recycling - The students are out to let you know they would be happy to collect your Christmas Tree to be recycled on Saturday, January 2nd between 8 am and 3 pm for just a $5 minimum donation!

- Pancake breakfast and Artisan Fair on Saturday, December 12th at Rose City United Methodist Church 5830 NE Alameda St. - Yummy pancakes and other breakfast items to be served from 8 to 11:30 am and an Artisan Craft Fair happening at the same time from 9 to 4! The manager at Safeway on Sandy & 69th is wonderful and letting the PTOP ECT students sell wreaths and poinsettias at the store this weekend! Since the kids have no school tomorrow, Friday, November 6th (teacher planning day for the end of quarter 1) through Sunday, November 8th and again on Wednesday, November 11th (no school for Veteran's Day). The kids will be there between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, so if you don't know who to purchase from, feel free to head on up there!

Fundraising Update

- Wreath and Poinsettia orders are scheduled to be due on Wed. Nov. 11th, however there is no school that day due to Veteran's Day. Orders need to be turned in to Ms. Wilson at Roseway Heights on Tuesday, Nov. 10th. All orders must have the students name, order forms and all money included. Please have the orders and money in a secure envelope for Ms. Wilson to lock up. *Parents, you can drop the orders off to Ms. Wilson's box in the office that day if you don't want to send it with your student.

- Wreaths and poinsettias will be delivered to Roseway Heights on Saturday, December 5th at Noon. All families who turned in orders must be at school by the small gym by 11:45. Both companies off load the product but we have to move it into the gym. We will place everyone's entire orders together to be double checked before anyone takes off to start delivering the items.

- Annie with Sun School is amazing and is letting the east coast students run concessions for the Rose City Basketball games every Saturday beginning Jan. 9th through March. It is totally up to us how we want to run this (menu, prices, organization, everything). The schedule has not been posted for the games yet so more information will come out about this. Virigina, Anne, Bill and Tracy will be the committee that determines all the logistics. Please email me if you and your student would like to participate so they can plan a little easier.

Arlington & Williamsburg

Today we visited Arlington National Cemetery to see the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We went on to have a yummy lunch at Michie Tavern, fried chicken and potatoes and gravy with beets, green beans and corn bread with scrumptious peach cobbler. Next we visited Thomas Jefferson's home of Monticello. The kids had a nice night relaxing in the pool and eating pizza and of course some went geo caching with Mr. Young!

Today we had a tour of the capitol building and had a great guide who also got us into the House of Representatives to see! We went to the Native American Smithsonian and then saw the National Cathedral. The kids then got to go souvenir shopping and then we had a photo op at the White House! Baltimore played the Detroit Tigers tonight at Camden Yards and won! Now everyone is bed ready for a long day tomorrow as we make our way to Williamsburg... where I won't have internet connection so this is probably the last post until after I get home, when I will add more photos!

We were in DC today and saw the American History Smithsonian as well as the Holocaust Museum and the Newseum. Information overload! Then we did a very loooooooong walking tour of many memorials (Jefferson, FDR, Lincoln, Vietnam, Korean and WWII), then dinner at the ESPN Zone and BED!

Gettysburg

Amazing feat! Isaac saved another students life when he performed the heimlich menuver on a student who was choking on a meatball. The meatball finally flew out of the other student's mouth and he was then able to breathe!

The kids did a bus ride tour of all the battle fields. Here are a few pictures of them as they learned how the soldiers lined up and fired!

We got out and had to search for a mini micro cache in a covered bridge in Lancaster, just down the street from the Amish Farm House that we visited where the students learned about the Amish way of life. There was also another cache next to the Target too! The kids are HOOKED!

Mr. Young, Ms. Kabza, Duc and I all found a few geocaches today in NYC while the kids were shopping on 5th Ave. Here are a few pictures of the ones we found.

This is the one we found off of 52nd Street. The security guard caught us and helped us out a little by telling us if we were hot or cold since we had to get back to the bus! He was great!

Today we took a long bus ride to New York City! We went to the Palace Theatre on Broadway (in Times Square) where we saw the play West Side Story! Dinner was at the Famous Hard Rock Cafe where someone, to remain namless (cough*adair*cough), burped long and loudly in the waitresses face who exclaimed, "That's Hot!" Just what she needed to hear! We went out into Times Square to get a great group photo in the hustle and bustle of NYC, with the lights blaring and millions of people walking around on this Memorial Day weekend!

Today was a long day! We started out in the Boston Commons (by the Cheer's location) and then headed up to a few burial grounds, saw Old South Meeting House and then on to the Boston Massacre site. We had lunch at Quincy Market then headed to Paul Revere's House and then to Old North Church where we got to see the steeple where the bells are rung (same bells Paul Revere rang!) and the crypt where many men have buried.

We headed back to Quincy Market for dinner then had the BEST TIME at Blue Man group.

Thursday, May 21st - Depart Portland on red eye flight!

Friday, May 22nd - Arrive Boston (via Newark, NJ), and head out to visit the Mayflower II and Plimoth Plantation. After lunch we will head back into Boston to see the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill.

Dinner is at a wonderful family style Italian restaurant, La Famiglia Georgios and then we will go walk around Ivy League school Harvard before bedtime.

Saturday, May 23rd - This morning we start off on Boston's Freedom Trail where we will see the Boston Commons, the Cheers site, the Old State House, the Boston Massacre Site and Granaray Burying Ground.

Then we head on to Old South Meeting House and Quincy Market at Faneuil Hall for lunch. Today is the yearly Street Festival and the kids get to watch all sorts of acts,

Next we head to Paul Revere's House and then we get to experience a steeple and crypt tour at Old North Church.

Dinner will be back at Quincy Market (since they don't get to see everything at lunch time) and then the infamous Blue Man Group performance.

Sunday, May 24th - We are headed to New York City today! We are seeing West Side Story play on Broadway, eating dinner at Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square and then will head outside for a group photo!

Monday, May 25th - Memorial Day - We will be visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island via the Circle Line ferry from Battery Park today.

After Ellis Island we will walk to the 9/11 site and visit St. Paul's Church and then walk down Wall Street on to the South Street Seaport.

After lunch we will drive by the United Nations and have a little shopping time on 5th Avenue (Tiffany's anyone?). Then we are on our way to Amish Country in Lancaster where the kids will have their first chance to swim a little before their pizza party and bedtime story and writing activity.

Tuesday, May 26th - Today we get to visit a working Amish Farm and House and then a tour of the countryside with a stop at Riehl's Quilt shop where the kids can purchase a Quillow if they want! We eat lunch in Intercourse, PA at Kitchen Kettle and then head to Gettysburg.

In Gettysburg we will take a driving tour and the kids can get out and look at Little Roundtop and other monuments and sites of the Civil War. After dinner and maybe a little more swimming (only if books are caught up) we will have our nightly walking ghost tour..... BOO!

Wednesday, May 27th - Headed to Washington DC! Today we are planning to visit the National Archieves and see the Declaration of Independence and the emotional Holocaust Museum.

We'll be eating lunch at the Navy Memorial and then seeing our first Smithsonian and then touring the Newseum after which we will see Ford's Theatre and the Peterson House.

Tonight we will do a night time tour of the monuments including the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, Washington Monument, WWII Monument, Vietnam Memorial and more! Then we will finish up with dinner at the ESPN Zone.

Thursday, May 28th - Today we will visit the Capitol and see where everything happens (courtesy of Senator Merkley). We will walk by the Supreme Court and Library of Congress and then visit the American History Smithsonian.

We are going to drive through Embassy Row on our way to the National Cathedral. When our Cathedral tour is over we are headed to a Major League Baseball Game!

Tonight we be at Camden Yards watching the Baltimore Oriole's take on the Detroit Tigers.

Friday, May 29th - We will start today with visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Kennedy's gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery.

Next we will head to Charlottesville, VA to visit Thomas Jefferson's beautiful homestead of Monticello. We will then head into Williamsburg for the evening.

Saturday, May 30th - Today the kids will explore Colonial Williamsburg visiting the Governor's Palace and craft shops. If they finish their study booklets they will enjoy the many rides and games that Busch Gardens offers for the evening.

Sunday, May 31st - Today we will head home, but not before heading into Washington DC again to see George Washington's home Mt. Vernon.

Hey everyone, check out the countdown clock! We leave in 18 days!

Don't forget to be on time tomorrow (Monday, May 4th) for your test! You must pass with a 90% or better to get on that airplane.... Hope you have been studying your procedure packet.

Students must sit at individual tables and not talk. If you do not pass the test the first time you will need to come to homework club Wednesday or Thursday to retake it (those of you at Roseway Heights). Those students not at Roseway Heights will have to arrange a time to retake the test if you don't pass the first time.

Remind your parents you might be done before 7:30 tomorrow so you can call when you are done with your test.

Don't forget your final payments are due on Friday, April 17th! Please get them in as soon as possible. I will be in the building on Friday so you can bring them to school with you to give to Mr. Hartinger.
